First-Grade Mathematics

This is a full academic year and summer review curriculum for first-grade level students to learn all the required math for first grade. Great for homeschoolers, after-school support, and refresher courses!

Class Structure

At the beginning of class, the students and teacher will have a discussion about the topic(s) of the week so the teacher can assess the students’ prior knowledge of the subject.

The teacher will introduce and teach the topic(s) throughout the class using the “I Do, We Do, You Do” method. This instructional method starts with the teacher giving an example, followed by the teacher and student solving a problem or completing a task together, and then finally, the student is given a problem or task to complete on his/her own, with support given as necessary. All classes will include instruction, practice, and application problems (word problems). Homework and review material is available upon request.

Throughout the entire class, many discussion questions will be asked in order to promote critical thinking, help the students to relate to the lesson, and introduce each topic within the lesson.

Students can join at any time since the classes do not build on each other. Topics rotate according to a predetermined schedule.

Who Can Join

This class is perfect for children aged 5 to 7 who are looking to master first-grade math skills. No previous knowledge is necessary, as we will cover and review all topics during class.
